Massachusetts Smoke and CO Detector Laws for Real Estate Sales and Transfers

In Massachusetts prior to closing of a real estate transaction an inspection is required by the local fire department to ensure that the home meets current code for smoke detectors and CO (carbon monoxide) detectors.  This inspection is the responsibility of the home seller.  Here is a link to a brochure published by the City of Methuen outlining the local code as well as a copy of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts smoke detector law.

For any client that lists their home for sale with me I will pay for the fire and smoke detector inspection prior to closing!

Thank you!
